Fairy Gift

There's a tree on the walking path at Calhoun Lake in Minneapolis that the fairies live in! People leave them little trinkets and put little notes filled with wishes and dreams inside....

When we were walking on Saturday I stopped to put one of the pink ribbons from my waist pack on the door of their house. Maybe they can help??

Why I Walk

When you tell people that you are walking in the 3 Day people ask you why?? Do you know someone who is a survivor? Have you had breast cancer? People have so many different reasons and I always kinda felt like I didn't have a "reason". I just wanted to help. I just want all cancer to end and this seemed like a great way to raise money and show my support to women who have fought breast cancer.

Well anyway, this weekend I was walking behind two fellow walkers who had no idea I was there. Both are survivors of breast cancer. I over-heard one ask they other, "was there ever a time when you thought you wouldn't make it?"

Oh my gosh!! That's why I'm walking! No one should have to say that. There shouldn't be a "survivors club"!

I cried...
... guess I'll be doing a lot of that on the 3 Day

33 Miles!!!

This weekend I walked 33 freakin' miles!!!
My feet show it! I'm a little concerned that if I have 7 blisters right now after 2 days of walking what is going to happen on the 3 Day?!

I will be a wreck.

Here are some pictures of our walk yesterday at the Chain of Lakes. Bette, Patty and Brenda
We did 18 miles yesterday once around all three lakes and then one more time around Calhoun and Harriet. Today seemed a lot harder. We had already logged in 18 miles yesterday and it was hotter walking on the blacktop with no shade at Bunker Hills...
Maria, Brenda, Bette and Nancy
We usually walk about 3 miles and then take some time to fill our water bottles, stretch and pee... if needed we re-wrap our feet.
Brenda, Donna and Maria
At lunch we take about a half hour to eat and re-wrap. Our feet look a bit mummified!

Socks

A sock company called Thorlos gave all of the 3 Day walkers a free pair of socks that they made specifically for this walk and recently they sent out a survey they wanted us to fill out about our experiences with the socks.
I did the survey and told them that I loved the cushion of the sock but I was still getting blisters and would suggest maybe a liner in the sock for friction. I was thinking that instead of my foot rubbing against the sock that a liner in the sock could rub instead.
Anyway I got a reply e-mail back and they asked me to call a lady named Susan because she wanted to discuss my e-mail.
I did and she was really helpful!! She's sending me a different sock to try and also suggested that I get a bigger shoe for the half way lunch shoe trade off.
She suggests that I use the more cushioned sock with my new larger shoes (still need to buy them) and use this thinner sock she is sending with my current shoes.
I'm a bit afraid to try it! I've been just putting tape all over my feet and I've been blister free... if I try this out and get more blisters I'll have to re-heal again! Ack!!
She might be right though and man would it be nice to not have to wear all of that tape when I walk!
We'll see!

$2,200!!

I've made my initial goal of $2,200!
Thank you to everyone who donated!
Now I can concentrate on preparing my body to walk 60 miles!!!

Your support means sooo much!

So we have an 18/15 walk this weekend. They call it a "back to back" because it's two big walks, back to back. This is the time where you would really learn about your feet. Where you'll get your blisters and how to hydrate yourself. It's supposed to be pretty warm but maybe not so humid.
I'm pretty excited about it because we'll be walking around the Chain of Lakes in Mpls. and I love it down there. You see some pretty crazy things! I'll make sure to bring my camera!

Beautiful

My friend Jackie made Melanie and I these necklaces. We are going to wear them when we walk on the 3 Day. It will be nice to bring something from our fundraiser... a reminder of their support.
Thank you Jackie!
Oh and check out her other work here....

The Tin Man

Walked 10 miles around the Coon Rapids Dam with the Hawaiian Ohanas today. So Ohanas doesn't mean breast like I thought ; ) it means family.... so not close.
I saw this on the dashboard of a car in the parking lot???

Thank you

On Thursday some of the ladies from my St. Paul SAHM Meetup group threw a fundraising party for me and Melanie!!
It was a lot of fun and we raised a lot of money. We had a raffle with items donated by the ladies who attended. We had women selling items they make and items they sell from an at home business. Jennifer did warm foot soaks by Daisy Blue Naturals and Erinn let us all do some Satin Hands by Mary Kay. Jackie's husband Troy manned the grill and sold water.
We even played the 3 Day video and got some tears rolling.
Thank you sooo much ladies!! Your support means sooo much to me!

Week 6

Countdown: 6 Weeks

Your Training Schedule for This Week:
Monday Rest
Tuesday 5 miles Easy walking
Wednesday 45 minutes Moderate cross training
Thursday 6 miles Moderate walking
Friday 45 minutes Easy cross training
Saturday 10 miles Easy walking
Sunday 6 miles Easy walking

I was talking with my friends that I walked with this weekend and I found it funny that we all consider this 10 and 6 mile walk this weekend to be kinda fluff. A lot of people are even skipping if for camping trips and family events. In the beginning 10 and 6 miles would have sounded pretty rough and now?? I'm more worried about the 18 and 15 coming up in two weeks!!

Party!!

Cat Calls and Gas

Tonight I ended up leaving our house later than I would have liked to walk around Palmer Lake. The dense trees make it seem darker out than it really is so I like to get an early start. Anyway, because I couldn't head there I ended up wondering my neighborhood... I only did about 2.5 miles. It's funny how after you've walked 14 miles 2 and 3 is totally nothing! It almost seems like a waste of time!

Now on to the Cat Calls and Gas.

You know you're damn sexy when 4 and 5 year old kids are calling you "cutie" and "hottie" from the swings!! Woo Hoo!

After I left the mini Don Juans I stumbled on a teenage couple sitting on the curb. The guy let out a huge long fart and the girl was humiliated. As sooo many of you know I tend to be a tad bit gassy so I reassured her that I could totally beat him! He laughed his ass off!

That was my night... kinda crazy.

Off to dye Joe's hair pink!! Pics tomorrow!

Sexy Blond

So we've started the "pink" process!! It was smelly. Alex was pretty interested in Daddy having a bag on his head and he loved touching the white hair too! It's such a shocker every time I look up at Joe... an automatic smile pops up! First the shock of seeing him sooo blond and then the knowledge that damn that boy must love me!!! Tomorrow PINK!!! Thank you ACUO!

Big Back to Back

This weekend I walked 14 and 10 miles!! Blisters? Yup!

Bummer....

I walked around the Chain of Lakes with the Hawaiian Ohana's on Saturday. One of my team members, Melanie, walked with us. We went once around Calhoun and Harriet... stopped for lunch and went around again. I didn't get any new blisters this first day but had to take extra care of the 3 I already had.

On Sunday I walked with the H.O's again, this time around the trails of Bunker Hills. This is a very safe park.... I really didn't feel like anyone would mess with us here. My blisters grew and I even got a new one on my heel. *sad face* Stopping at McDonald's for a hash brown was a plus!

I met some more women today. Bette and Bobbie. I think going on these training walks will make the actual 3 Day easier for so many reasons... making friends that I can walk and talk with on the 3 Day and learning where to protect my feet once these blasted blisters heal up!

I may take the week off of walking so I can heal up. I walked last Thursday after I said I wouldn't and they all just puffed right back up. Walking and sleeping are kinda tough. I don't want the blankets to rub on the blisters so I have to sleep with my feet all contorted.... crazy but I'm kinda glad they are here!! Proof of how hard I'm trying : )
